Appliance Removal Services in Heywood for Safe, Responsible Disposal
G Housley provides appliance removal services in Heywood for households replacing old, unwanted or faulty domestic appliances. Our team can coordinate delivery, installation and removal as part of the same arranged visit, helping you avoid moving bulky electrical items yourself. The service is available for eligible appliances and purchases across our local delivery area.
Removing an Old Appliance When You Buy a Replacement
Replacing a large appliance often creates an immediate problem: what should you do with the old one?
Washing machines, dishwashers, cookers, fridges and other domestic appliances can be heavy, awkward to transport and unsuitable for ordinary household waste. When you purchase an eligible replacement from G Housley, removal of the old appliance can often be arranged alongside delivery or installation.
Depending on the appliance and service selected, our team may be able to:
- Disconnect the existing appliance
- Remove it safely from the property
- Install and test the replacement
- Remove suitable packaging
- Arrange appropriate recycling or disposal
Removal should be agreed before delivery. This allows us to confirm access requirements, charges and whether additional arrangements are needed.
Appliances We Can Remove & Recycle
Our removal service covers many of the domestic appliances commonly replaced in local homes.
Laundry Appliances
We can arrange washing machine, washer dryer and tumble dryer removal when an eligible replacement is delivered. Selected installation services include disconnection of the old appliance, installation of the new model, packaging removal and recycling.
Dishwashers
Freestanding and built-in dishwasher removal may be available as part of a replacement and installation service. Integrated models require additional care because they are fitted into kitchen cabinetry and may need specialist disconnection and removal.
Ovens & Electric Cookers
Old electric ovens and cookers can be removed when suitable installation arrangements have been made. G Housley does not install gas appliances, so customers replacing a gas appliance will need to arrange work through a Gas Safe-registered engineer.
Fridges, Freezers & Fridge Freezers
Refrigeration appliances require specialist disposal because they contain refrigerants and other controlled materials. Removal can be arranged for eligible fridges, freezers and standard fridge freezers, with a licensed disposal charge applying where recycling is required.
Integrated Appliances
Built-in washing machines, dishwashers, ovens, fridges and freezers can often be removed during professional replacement installation. Please provide accurate information about the appliance, cabinetry and access before booking.
American-style fridge freezers require separate arrangements because of their size and weight. Customers must confirm dimensions, door access and collection requirements with the team before ordering.
How Our Appliance Removal Service Works
Our service is designed to make replacing a household appliance more straightforward.
Confirm the Appliance & Access
Tell us which appliance is being replaced, where it is located and whether there are stairs, narrow doorways, fitted units or other access restrictions.
Select Delivery or Installation
Removal can be coordinated with delivery or professional installation. The exact service depends on whether the appliance is freestanding, integrated, electric or refrigeration-based.
Prepare the Old Appliance
The appliance should be empty, accessible and ready for collection. Where disconnection is not included, it must be safely disconnected before our team arrives.
Delivery, Removal & Setup
Our team delivers the replacement, completes the agreed installation work and removes the old appliance where the confirmed conditions have been met.
You can review current service details and installation charges on our appliance delivery, installation and returns page .
Responsible Appliance Recycling & Disposal
Electrical appliances should not simply be placed in general household waste. Many contain metals, plastics, electrical components and other materials that can be recovered or processed through appropriate recycling routes.
Refrigeration appliances need particular care. Fridges and freezers may contain refrigerants, oils and insulation materials that require controlled handling. For eligible non-American refrigeration appliances, a licensed disposal charge of £24 per unit applies.
Responsible appliance recycling helps:
- Reduce electrical waste sent to landfill
- Recover reusable metals and materials
- Ensure controlled components are handled appropriately
- Make replacing a large appliance more convenient for the customer
Please note: Our removal service is primarily designed to support customers replacing an appliance purchased from G Housley. It is not presented as a general household clearance or unrestricted waste collection service.
Preparing for Appliance Collection
Correct preparation reduces the risk of delays or an unsuccessful collection.
Before the arranged visit, please make sure the old appliance is:
Fridges and freezers should be emptied and defrosted in advance. Washing machines and dishwashers should contain no standing water.
Tell us before delivery if the appliance is upstairs, inside fitted cabinetry, behind a narrow doorway or in an area with difficult access. Removal may not be possible where moving the appliance could create a safety risk or cause property damage.
Upstairs access: Upstairs delivery or collection may require an additional charge. Current guidance includes a £15 charge for access of up to 15 steps, while longer or more difficult access requires an individual quotation.
Removal Charges & Service Limitations
Charges depend on the type of appliance, access conditions and the installation service selected.
Some installation packages include removal and recycling of the old appliance. Refrigeration disposal charges remain separate where licensed processing is required.
American-style fridge freezers: American-style fridge freezers are not covered by the standard free-delivery arrangement and cannot normally be delivered or removed upstairs unless a suitable lift is available. Customers are responsible for checking that the appliance will fit through doors, hallways and other access points.
